This hike is one of the most popular in Southern California. And what about the summit view? If it’s a clear day, it’s the best vista in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Distance:~10.0 miles

Elevation Gain: ~4,000 ft.

Min Elevation : 6,103 ft.

Max elevation :10,064 ft.

Trail: Loop, some pavement, fire roads, but mostly single track and rocky trails. We'll take the Ski Hut trail up to the summit and then loop down via the Devil's Backbone to the ski lodge. We'll then take the fireroad and pavement back down to the cars.

Important Notes: There will be no sweep for this hike. We will stop periodically to ensure all hikers stay with the group. We will take rest breaks as needed by the group. This hike is strenuous. Know your abilities/limits before you sign up.

Pre hydrate really well to handle the altitude and workout.

Essentials: sunscreen, Insulation(extra clothing-check weather-cooler at higher altitudes), first aid, repair kit, flashlight-head lamp, extra water, food

Parking: An Adventure Pass is required. Purchase for $5 at REI or most other sporting goods stores. An annual pass can be purchased for $30. Or purchase 2 for $35 and split the cost with another person.

Directions to the Trailhead: From any town get to the 210 Freeway going east (toward San Bernardino).Take the BASE LINE ROAD exit, EXIT 52. Turn LEFT onto E BASE LINE RD/E BASELINE RD/CA-30.Turn RIGHT onto PADUA AVE. Turn RIGHT onto MT BALDY RD.Continue north on Mt. Baldy road. If you'd like to stop at the Mt. Baldy Visitor's Center in Mt. Baldy Village, you can get a Forest Adventure Pass here. Continue north on Mt. Baldy Rd. until you get to Manker Flats. As you approach the Manker Flats parking area, you will be on a 4 lane road with a wide center divider.

Parking is on both sides and in the divider. After you pass the Manker Flats campground on the right, look for Angeles Falls Road. There is access through the divider at this point, so you can turn left and park closer to the trail head. There is a gate across Angeles Falls road and port-a-potties- this is the trail head.
