Self-Evaluation - Take an honest look at yourself. Before going on this big hike, be honest with yourself:
Physical Skills - Is your body ready for this hike? Have you ever hiked over 20 miles before? Have you been hiking recently?
Mental Skills - Are you mentally and emotionally ready to challenge yourself? How will you handle a twisted ankle, blisters, sore knees, getting lost, slow pace, dirty hands, a swarm of insects, or any other thing that may pop up unexpectedly? You need to be emotionally flexible and tolerant as well as confident in yourself.
Attitude -Are you willing to support others who may need your encouragement or assistance during the hike?
Join us for a fun-packed day of hiking and beauty that begins at the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead. We'll hike to the Serrano Valley to Satwiwa to Boney Overlook to Tri-peaks to Sandstone Peak to Mishe Mokwa. We've hiked all of these trails in parts--but this will be the first time we'll connect them together without the use of a car shuttle.
We'll need to get an early start--so we'll begin at 8:00 am.
The whole trip will be around 22 miles--my estimate--and will take the whole day. Elevation gain estimated to be over 3,000 feet. This is a fantastic spring hike and most likely the weather will be perfect!
If you've got somewhere to be--that afternoon--please don't sign up as we're not going to be on a time schedule.
Directions to the Trailhead:The trailhead is 1 mile east of the Circle X Ranch, which is located 5 ½ miles from Pacific Coast Highway on Yerba Buena Road in Malibu.
Alternately, from Westlake Village, exit on Westlake Blvd from the 101 Freeway, and follow it south for several miles as it merges with Mulholland highway. Turn right onto Little Sycamore Canyon and it will become Yerba Buena Road as you cross the county line. Proceed on Yerba Buena Road for about 4 miles to trailhead. (Lat:34.11161 Lon:-118.92643
Click on the maplink below and note that we are meeting at the Mishe Mokwa Trailhead(not the Sandstone Peak Trailhead) There are 3 parking lots indicated on the map. Ours is the one all the way to the right on the map by the Mishe Mokwa Trail. Note: the blue teardrop on this map shows the place we'll meet--Mishe Mokwa Trailhead.

A suggestion: If you've never been to the trailhead before allow yourself more than enough time to arrive earlier than posted departure time. This allows for extra time to find the actual meeting place.
