Rustic Canyon Trek(Loop Hike Starting from Will Rogers State Park)/Strenuous

Details

Another Wonderful Adventure in Rustic Canyon.

Are you ready for another "rumble" with Rustic Canyon? I don't plan on climbing any strange hillsides (as some of us did a loooong time ago in Rustic Canyon), but we may get a little bit wet wandering down the creekbed to the Nazi hideaway at Camp Josepho. Hope your interest has been piqued!!~

My research also turned up that Charles Manson used to hang out there with his followers. They used the area to convene and plan. Kind of creepy!!

This is called an adventure hike because I've done most of it---but not all of it.

There's only one segment(and the most exciting part) that I haven't done. I've got a guidebook and map I'm following for direction etc.

15 mile loop hike starting at Will Rogers State Park. Hike to Inspiration Point and then to Temescal Peak/Hub via the Backbone Trail. Take the beautiful Bay Tree Trail down to its connection with the Rustic Canyon Trail. We'll continue south on the Rustic Canyon Trail ( very little traveled place) to Camp Josepho. From Camp Josepho we'll follow Rustic Canyon trail back to Will Rogers Park and then the cars.

I chose this route because we'll do all the climbing first (500 ft. up to about 1900 ft at the Hub). Then it's all downhill from there basically.

We could have done it reverse starting from Mulholland, but we would climb at the end instead of the beginning.

Please bring snacks, lots of water(because we don't know how long we'll be out), camera, hiking boots etc.

No dogs allowed as we're hiking within the state park boundaries.

Wear long pants, long sleeves, and a hat. Be prepared to step away from poison oak. Not sure what's out there.

Since I've never done this hike before and it's definitely an adventure please be prepared to enjoy the challenges and risks of "not knowing exactly where you are" at all times and the discovery of a new place.

It's best to do this hike on a day when we are not on a precise schedule. If you have to be somewhere at a certain time after the hike, then this isn't the hike for you.

If you love an adventure and have time for discovery--then definitely come and enjoy this day!

Directions: Get to Sunset Blvd from either PCH or the 405 Fwy.

If coming from the 405, exit Sunset Blvd. and go west toward ocean until you get to Will Rogers State Park Road. Turn right and proceed until you reach the parking lot.

Parking is either $10 or $12, so it's best to carpool or look for parking on the street outside. Parking on street is free, but very difficult to find.

Carpooling is advised.

If coming from PCH, turn left or east onto Sunset and proceed to Will Rogers State Park Road. Turn left and go until you reach the parking lot. Parking is $10 or $12. Parking on street is free, but very difficult to find.
