  • I'm hoping I'm not the only person who joined this group with no running experience. The normal Saturday morning five mile run is a little intimidating to newbies (or maybe just me). Maybe a shorter run on a nice entry level trail?

I've been following this for a while. Please let me know if it's going to be starting up. I'm a bit out of shape from this winter, haha! Used to run with the OWLs, but I missed meeting up with them last year. My pace isn't fast (12min-15min for 3-5 miles), so a beginning/transitioning run would be great!

The Saturday morning 5 mile is intimidating for me too but I figure if it gets to be too much, I will just change my pace to a fast walk so come on anyway.

i may wait then to run with you guys next week....can you share a map of the run route...I may do it sunday this week to see how I do...my race pace is usually 9:20.....so i usually train slower

Kathryn in the workout runs we are generally under 9:00 pace. But the other two runs on Thursday and Saturday, after this week, will be at whatever pace you want to go - we won't leave anybody behind. I'll run sweep if need be.

Absolutely! For beginner ladies, the OWLs are the perfect fit. For guys, ya gotta tough it out with us. But if you can't keep a hard pace yet, I have just changed to "no-drop" status for the runs Sat 8AM and Thurs 7PM.

the OWL's Monday night run is a great place to start. They do an hour usually, at an easy pace and usually there is someone there who will walk/jog too if you need.
I'm not jumping into a 5 mile run either!

We have discussed for a couple weeks changing one of the Thursday runs to a slower tempo and making the other a hard workout run, and doing the same for Saturday. I think it's time to do that.

For ladies only (guys, don't even think about it!), there is a meetup called Outdoor Women of Louisville (OWLs) that does, among other things, a couple of easy trail runs each week (Monday and Wednesday evenings). They generally do 2-4 miles at a much slower pace than most of our group. Also, as our group grows with better weather, we can split our runs into a couple different pace groups, which will enable more disparate fitness levels to comfortably do the runs.
