Photowalk on the Embarcadero, San Francisco

Well folks, with spring nearly upon us, it's time to get out there and start shooting! Accordingly, we've scheduled the first TWiP photowalk of the year for Saturday, April 21, 2012.

We'll meet at the beautiful Ferry Building on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, and head from there towards Fisherman's Wharf, about 1.5 miles away. Sunset around that time of year is supposed to be around 7:52pm, so we're meeting at 6pm to make the most of Golden Hour, that magical time just before the sun goes down.

We'll end the photowalk at Fisherman's Wharf. Photographer Rodney Lough Jr. has a massive gallery there, so those of you who are interested are welcome to join us as we take a tour of the space. If you haven't seen Rodney's work before, it's worth the visit.

More details will be released as we get closer to the date, and of course, we'll keep an eye on the weather, just in case.

See you there!

Thanks,
The TWiP Team

Hi I had an awesome time. I posted the pictures from the walk at surendra.smugmug.com (Album: EmbarcaderoWalk San Francisco) as well a blog at upnabout.wordpress.com. If you visit comments on the pictures would be highly encouraging. Currently EMB040 (sunset on Golden Bridge has been the most visited picture)

Being a first timer, I wasn't really sure but it turned out to be good learning experience.
On the bad side, there was confusion and no clarity if there is some lead or we are supposed to just walk around by ourselves and we lost of time.

The Embarcadero is a great place for a Photowalk. There is never a shortage of interesting people, and things to see.

Weather was great. The people I walked with were wonderful. Unfortunately, the meeting location was changed at last minute and notification was by email. I had no access to email to notice the change. So never did meet up with the meetup organizer until the very end. Would have been nice to see where he would have recommended we go for various sites, etc. Afterall, part of the fun of a photowalk is to visit unfamiliar places and get insight from those who are familiar with the area.

Also wasted 20 minutes waiting around for the main group.

I am on waitlist, do you think i still have chance ?

@MM - we're meeting at 6pm - sorry for the confusion. Gives us 1.86 hours of golden light, and the lights around Fisherman's wharf should be fun to shoot too. @Sanjay - no prerequisites. Bring a camera, come, chat, have fun!

@David - it should be fun! Happy to have you!

Hi, I just joined the meetup and wonder which time we'll meet? One on the title said 5pm and the other in the body said 6pm. I feel 6pm is the time.

Is there any prerequisite for joining this photo-walk? I am relatively new to the SLR world and have never been to a photo-walk before, but would like to join this and learn from participants.

As someone on the waiting list, I am excited to read about the lifting of the RSVP limit, however, I could make some arguments for a smaller group depending on the type of walk. There can be 'too much of a good thing' ;) For this walk, I hope to join you all. I'm a relatively recent twip subscriber

@MarcosV You can pretty much shoot what ever you feel like at these photowalks. There are some pretty good street scenes to capture, and the light will be leaving us so you might consider bringing a wide-angle as well as a tripod. If you've got pano-gear, bring it along!

    April 15, 2012

  • Frederick Van J.

Hey @Ernest, you're right, there is no good reason to limit attendance to these photowalks. I've lifted the RSVP limit. :)

    April 15, 2012

  • MarcosV

I was curious: what sort of camera gear should one bring to photowalk like this? Lightweight setup? Tripod with a panoramic setup?

    April 15, 2012

  • Ernest

Just curious, why is there a limit to how many can attend?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
