I live on West 43rd Street, which is a main conduit of traffic in North Houston just outside the loop. I am interested in taking advantage of this traffic to do two projects. (1) I want to put some kind of a sensor on the road to count traffic thru the day and (2) it seems like one could place some kind of a piezo device that would generate electricity when run over. Could someone help me with the technical aspects of these projects, or at least advise me if they are possible. Thanks

You can buy commercial car counting systems, however anything which is placed on the road probably falls under the cities jurisdiction so I do not recommend proceeding with a project that puts anything in the road with out the proper city approval. A camera with the proper image processing algorithms would be non-invasive and relatively cheap. If you want further advise it would be a good idea to take the conversation to our google group: https://groups.google..... Or coming on an open house friday night starting at 8pm.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
