Beacon search practice field with Arva and ABS!

Details

Partnered with Arva Beacons and ABS airbags, the Tahoe Backcountry Ski Patrol will be hosting a beacon practice field at the Castle Peak trailhead.

We will bury a series of beacons to give you the opportunity to hone your beacon searching and probing skills. If you don't already own a beacon and probe, we will have beacons/probes for you to borrow. We will also be providing clinics on strategic shoveling to dig out an avalanche victim.

Snowshoes or backcountry touring skis are necessary for this event.

To access the Castle Peak trailhead, park at the Sno-Park on the south side of Hwy 80 next to the Boreal Ski Resort. A Sno-Park pass ($5) is required to park here and can be purchased from REI, the Boreal Inn right next to the parking lot, or online here: https://secure.kinsail.com/results.asp?p=casno&pt=parks . After parking, pass under Hwy 80 on foot to the north side of the highway. Ascend the obvious road/trail for approximately 600 yards where you will find us at the trailhead sign to the Castle Peak area.

Note: This event is not a substitute for an Avalanche safety training course. For anyone travelling into the backcountry in winter, a Level 1 Avalanche training course is recommended.
