The Talking Stick Moot meets in the Gin Room (upstairs at the Queen's Ferry Hotel, Vulcan Lane) for talks on the old ways, the new ways, folk lore, the esoteric, the metaphysical and the wyrd.
First Wednesday of the month ~ 7.30pm (the talk is between 8.00pm and 9.00pm)
Door charge: $5
About the Moot ~ Before plasma screens, speaker systems and speed dating, pubs were the quintessential meeting place of the esoteric and the interesting. Public houses have a long history of hosting community meetings. It’s time to reclaim the pub for talks on the old ways, the new ways, folk lore, the occult, the metaphysical and the wyrd. The tradition of exchanging of ideas and learning in a sociable environment returns an evening at the pub to its former roots – hearty discussions, good company, refreshments and food for thought.
Format ~ The talk will begin at 8.00pm and finish at 9.00pm. Entry after 9.00pm is free. After a short break we'll reconvene for notices about future events, the gift giveaway and socialising.
About the Venue ~ Queen’s Ferry Hotel was established in 1858 and is reputed to be the oldest pub in Auckland, and the third oldest in New Zealand. Rumoured to be haunted, sailors clandestinely drank after hours and left by a ‘smugglers’ door. Today it offers food and drink, and the owners have restored its traditional feel and atmosphere. (NZ licensing laws apply: children and under 18s must be accompanied by parent or guardian.)
