It consists of a day of sessions and labs based on the Windows Azure Training Kit. The event has been originally designed by 5 Windows Azure MVPs in order to benefit the local community members and teach essential Windows Azure skills and know-how. While supported by several sponsors , including Microsoft, the event is completely independent and community driven.

About last year's edition:

Global Windows Azure Bootcamp 2013 took place in April 2013, and ran at 94 locations in 38 countries on the same day, including countries like Nepal and Mauritius – nearly ten times more than expected, and possibly the largest community event ever. Approx. 250 organizers welcomed about 6,000 attendees – for a peak of nearly 5000 cores in the Azure Render Farm, equivalent to over 8000 GHz and 8.5 TB of memory – rendering over eight compute years in about 30 hours.

About this year's edition:

This year, the organizers decided to put all this computing power at work supporting medical research on diabetes, by hosting a globally distributed lab in which attendees of the event will deploy virtual machines in Windows Azure. Those will help analyse data related to specific sugars called glycans, being studied as an early marker for Type 2 diabetes. To this extent, the organizers worked with the Biological Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), in the persons of Scott R. Kronewitter and Clay D. Hagler, the main authors of the GlyQ-IQ software, who developed it to run in a massively multicore parallel deployment like GWAB's.

When and where is Global Windows Azure Bootcamp 2014?

Global Windows Azure Bootcamp will take place on the 29th of March 2014, at a location near you. Right now there are 136 locations registered in 54 countries and 133 cities.

Why Global Windows Azure Bootcamp 2014?

To help technical communities and developers to get started with Windows Azure, simply because we believe it is a great product and we want to tell the world about it! We hope we can benefit beginner as well as experienced developers to receive the support they need in developing and deploying for and in the cloud, at the same time strengthening the Azure community at large.
