*** Route Change for the Mock Tour:
There is 1 route point where we may have to differ on the Mock Tour.
We may not be able to ride on the 202 Bypass at mile 12.5. If that is the case we will continue on Bristol and follow the reverse direction of the return route until we get to Del Val Farmer's Market - we'll continue on Bristol, go right on Upper State, right on Almshouse, and left onto Lower State. We'll see how this works out on the day of the ride.
Ride Squads
We've arranged squads to stick together for the ride. Based on the average speed you can maintain for 40 miles on flats, we've setup the squads this way:
Touring Squad (10-15mph)
Squad Leaders: Bob Carter & Leticia Amadio Arrington Brisk Squad (15-18mph)
Squad Leaders: Kevin Horio & Bill Edwards Gonzo Squad (18+ mph)
Squad Leader: Joe Niszczak
All of the squad leaders have prepped (somewhat) for the routes. One will ride lead, the other will ride sweep for you particular group. The Gonzo Squad will not have a sweep - the Brisk Squad will sweep for the Gonzos.
We'll all start the ride together, but as the riders naturally break apart, we'll stick to our squads so no one gets lost. Squad leaders will stop at certain points to let the squad coalesce. The squad sweeper will make sure no one from their squad is behind them.
If you find yourself alone and don't know where to turn, stop and wait for your sweeper. They'll catchup and you can go on together. If you do know the way, keep riding and you'll catch up to the squad leader at some point.
I'll have cue sheets printed for everyone on the morning of the ride.
The Gonzo Squad is special and may not necessarily be formed. Only if there are riders that want to ride off the front of the Brisk Group, Joe will go with them and form the Gonzo Squad.
You can pick your group the morning of the ride. We'll split into groups so you can look around and see who your Squad Leaders and Squad Mates are. If you can't keep up with your squad on the ride, it's OK to fall back to the next Squad. Unless you're in the Touring Squad, then the Touring Squad Sweeper will ride with you and help you through.
Don't forget - if you ave them, wear your Team Red or Red Rider kits in a show of force to also promote our cause - the fight against diabetes.
See you there!
