Virtual Worlds - May Tech & Social Change Baltimore Meetup

  • May 3, 2012 · 6:30 PM

The presentation, "A Look at Nonprofit Capacity Building through Virtual Worlds” will look at virtual world platforms such as Second Life and OpenSim (Kitely, JokaydiaGRID, OSGrid, etc) as well as cover basic information on usability and applications of the 3D platforms within real-life and virtual-based nonprofit communities. Meetup participants will learn how virtual worlds can be used for meetings, marketing, fundraising, and other tasks. In addition, the presenters, Sally S. Cherry, MT (ASCP) and her Second Life based avatar, SarVana Haalan will share their experiences within TechSoup Global’s virtual community of global nonprofit organizations known as Nonprofit Commons in Second Life (NPSL).

Thank you to WYPR for hosting our event. Plenty of parking should be available. They recommend parking in front of the building instead of in the lot in behind it.

Sally's presentation expanded my thinking about the possibilities for nonprofits and educators in this realm. Thanks Sally!

This was a terrific way to learn the VWs. Sally is very enthusiastic about this topic and shared a number of helpful uses. The concept of a virtual church that family members could attend together (families move apart from one another these days) caught my attention.

Thanks for the opportunity to share "SarVana's" virtual world community with the group. Excited about the fundraising potential of virtual worlds for local nonprofits.
