GUEST FOR FEBRUARY 2014 EXECBREAKFAST:
MICHAEL CHASEN, founder of Blackboard and SocialRadar
Michael Chasen is an entrepreneur who is focused in the technology, education and SoLoMo (Social Local Mobile) space. Michael co-founded Blackboard, Inc., which created e-learning software that is now used by over 30 million students and faculty at more than 20,000 institutions around the world. In Michael's 15 years as CEO, the company experienced rapid growth: establishing an enterprise software division, a software-as-service technology and a mobile software group; pioneering the first true cloud solution for education; and positioning Blackboard as a leader in open source. When Michael took Blackboard public in 2004, it was the second best performing IPO of the year. Seven years later, Providence Equity Partners bought Blackboard for $1.7 Billion.
Michael created Blackboard because he thought that the Internet was going to fundamentally change the way people teach and learn. Michael has now started SocialRadar because he believes that the combination of mobile, social media, and location services will redefine how people meet and connect in person. And SocialRadar is building that technology.
When Michael is not building the team, designing the product, or micromanaging the marketing plan, he focuses on being a Jon Stewart look-alike. Michael hopes that when Jon retires he is called to the plate.

VENUE: DLA PIPER BUILDING - MT WASHINGTON
DLA Piper is hosting us in their amazing space in Mt. Washington that can handle 200 or more people, with plentiful parking, and convenient access for those that live outside the city. What more can you ask?
The DLA Piper building is in the Mt. Washington Conference Center campus (up the hill), and it is a totally amazing building. Check it out:
To get to the venue, use the Smith street entrance (and not the entrance that weaves its way through the Mt. Washington Conference Center). See below map for detail.

Parking is plentiful and there's a lot right next to the building, with plenty of room for all attendees. And it's free. Use the UPPER LOT.
Leave the few visitor spots that are right in front of the building available for the use of the offices. They have some elderly clients who aren't able to walk up the walkway to the building. The lot is really big and very close so you shouldn't need those spots anyways.
DON'T PARK ON THE CURB IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING - YOU WILL BE TOWED!
The Mt. Washington campus is located very conveniently near the Light Rail stop, which is literally just down the hill from the venue. Get off at the Mt. Washington Light Rail station, and then climb the steps to the Octagon Building at Mt. Washington and from there you can get to the DLA Piper building. It's a 15-20 minute walk at most.
There are also shuttles from the JHU Homewood and JHMI campuses right to the Mt. Washington Conference center, including one that leaves at 7:40AM from Homewood getting in by 8AM, and leaving at 9:35AM to return to Homewood. Very convenient.
See you all there!
