Second Night of Automattic - React.js / Functional Programming

Automattic (@Automattic) (http://twitter.com/automattic) the company that brings you WordPress, now powers a staggering 75 million websites around the internet. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of open source plug-ins for WordPress, including Automattic's 21 in-house products ranging from "After the Deadline" to "WooCommerce."

It is with immense privilege to announce a two-night technology performance by Automattic starting on Wednesday 6th November. Tonight's presentations will suit experienced web developers who have a keen interest in both WordPress plugins, and web application development.

Session One: Building Composable React.js Components.

Do you want to test your React components? Want to show a live preview? Want to have different behaviors for your app when running locally? Want to embed your React app in another app? These questions and more will be answered as the result of designing with the goal of composability. This talk covers advanced React design principles and is less appropriate for absolute beginners.

Session Two - Practical Functional Programming.

Sometimes it seems like "functional programming" means using a bunch of confusing words, complicated abstractions, and magic. Functional programming has much to offer in terms of programming skill and it doesn't have to be a maze of confusion. This talk covers some basic tools from the functional programming world and how they can help us achieve our pragmatic goals.

Dennis is a Code Wrangler at Automattic, Inc. and spends his days reticulating splines, working on backend APIs, refactoring code, and thinking. As an engineer, he tends to ramble about code performance, signal processing, and how to play well with others.
