Topic
Over the past few years a number of alternatives have sprung up in the data storage/database space. Fueled by different needs, ranging from scalability, high availability, resiliency, to developer productivity, simplicity in both development and operations, these are challenging the notion that SQL/RDBMS based solutions are the best/only option. These databases fall into various categories like, Key Value stores, Column oriented databases, Document databases, Graph databases, etc. In this talk we will cover some basics around this emerging set of data stores, talk about some driving factors about how these came about. After that we will do a deep dive into one of the more popular offerings in this space, mongoDB.
This talk will give you an overview of this space, and serve as an introduction to mongoDB, how it works, the features it offers and some brief demos/examples. It will hopefully also spark enough interest to go and play around with mongoDB and join the active and vibrant community.
