Autodesk Meetup at TechShop Detroit

Share what you know and ask questions about what you don't. What a great way to learn tricks and tips for Autodesk software! Bring in your Autodesk files to share with others at the meet-up (and don't forget to bring your latest prototype!) Meet-up emcee is Patrick Miller, TechShop instructor and education developer for Autodesk software.

This meet-up is free and open to TechShop members.

This week we'll discuss using parameters in Inventor to build design intent into your model. Parameters allow you to create relationships between dimensions and build equations in your models.

As always we'll discuss any other topics the group is interested in!

Looking for help flattening an object. Couldn't get it to convert to sheet metal.

We can definitely discuss at the meetup. A couple things off the top, the part must have uniform thickness throughout and the part thickness must equal the sheet metal thickness in the sheet metal styles. If I recall correctly, it also cannot be a multi-body part. Hope this helps.

What is the best file format to save an Autodesk Inventor 2014 file so that it can be loaded into the Tech Shop's Autodesk Inventor 2013's software. I can't file a simple solution to "save as a 2013" file. So which one of the many choices would be best to try? Thanks for any help with this problem.

Hi Tim, Try exporting a DWG for your version of inventor, then Open/import into the other version.

Hey Tim, I've had the most success with STEP going between versions of Inventor or to other 3D systems.
