Physical Interaction Design with Ariel Cotton
Details
Physical Interaction Design is about, well, interaction design on the physical level. In this talk, Ariel Cotton will delve into general interaction design concepts, including but not limited to: making interfaces user-friendly and intuitive, striking a balance between innovation and sticking to established paradigms, and Dieter Rams's ten principles of good design.
Cotton will also explore how she has implemented principles of interaction design in her physical work and touch on her love of unconventional interfaces. Last but not least, Cotton will also give a physical computing demonstration in which she turns an Arduino into a mouse input and uses it to navigate a computer screen.
Ariel Cotton is an artist, inventor, and interaction designer. Her work straddles the boundaries between art and technology—ranging from comic art to interactive electronic installations and devices. Cotton attended Cooper Union to study art and design, and while she was there, she also took engineering courses. Her work has been featured in solo and group shows at locations such as the MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum, and NYC Resistor, and it has been written up in The Huffington Post, Make Magazine, Laughing Squid, Technically Brooklyn, and The Brooklyn Paper.
There will be networking time before and after Ariel’s talk. Refreshments will be served.
