Samrat Saha: Optimize Garbage Pickup Using Bluetooth 4 And BLE Enabled Devices

Details
Did you know that a “smart” garbage can could help reduce overflowing garbage cans and rat outbreaks?
How? Fitting trash receptacles with sensors that can tell how full they are, and when they are broken or go missing.

These sensors, wireless Bluetooth low energy (BLE) modules, could then transmit data to the phones of people who walk by, says Samrat Saha.

Speaker: Samrat Saha Principal - BlueCity LLCOriginally from India, he received undergraduate degree for Geological Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He pursued graduate studies in Geology at the University of Maryland, College Park; researching magma and the behavior of Copper in magmatic systems, but his interests in IT took over and he transitioned into IT related work midway through my graduate studies. Eventually he found his way to WI and with a few like minded individuals he started BlueCity LLC with a focus on mobile devices/sensors, people and their environment.
This talk is about using BT4 as a bridge to allow data from otherwise isolated sensors to get to cloud hosted repositories.
In particular it is to demonstrate how efficiencies can be obtained in garbage collection in urban areas by leveraging the people who frequent those areas to allow for information gathering with the end result of optimizing garbage collection scheduling.
This is also to demonstrate that there are a lot of use cases of BT4 that need to be explored.
