Whether ’tis nobler for us to implement an outrageously cool feature or take arms against a sea of bugs, the question we will address is, “What happens when a whole bunch of techies go WILD on source code that helps people to have fun and bike?”
Of course, we are talking about the Shift Calendar. For those of you that don’t know, Portland is a leader among North American cities in that it has this website that crowdsources bike social rides and allows anybody to find them. The Shift Calendar is used to organize Pedalpalooza and many other fun bike events throughout the year, and other cities are using its source code to make their own! However, the source code for the Shift Calendar is somewhat stuck in 2008. The developer who created and has been maintaining it hasn’t had time to make significant improvements. Today, the site gets between 7,000 to 30,000 unique visitors per month. It plays an important role for the bike community, but has lost visitors over the years.
At this event, Techies on Bikes will come to the rescue and help bring the Shift Calendar into 2015!
