Chicago Tech Week: Tech In Motion

Details

Our inaugural Tech in Motion Event will be on July 25th 2011 at the Kerryman Bar and Restaurant (http://www.thekerrymanchicago.com) on 661 N. Clark Street, Chicago IL.

A generation ago, Americans didn’t spend hours setting up the perfect fantasy football team, or compete to be “Mayor” of their favorite bar. Instead, they all gathered after work to the local bowling alley to talk about work, their family, and anything else on their mind. Yet as time went on, Bowling took a backseat in American culture and has still yet to resurface.

With that being said, Brian Lastovich refuses to give up on the aging sport and would like to explore the possibility of giving it a second wind through the new age social technology that exists.

Tech in Motion’s inaugural meetup will call upon our panel of guest experts from the Chicago area

Each expert will explore just how realistic a task this will be based on their expertise and previous experiences, and we will see if we can help Brian make bowling relevant again.

Who knows, maybe you can say you were there when Brian Lastovich began to build the biggest bowling empire America has ever seen!

What is Tech In Motion?

Tech In Motion is an event that will be incorporated with the 1 st annual Chicago Tech Week. We will explore how to create a company from an idea and what it takes to become a successful business. We will explore this process by focusing on three critical areas and inviting a panel of experts talk about each phase:

Create, Build, Go

Create

· Pitch the idea to the audience and explain you vision including who will use the product, how it will make money and how you plan to grow it.

· Invite a panel of three guests that would be possible users of this product, buyers of this product or their career will ultimately be impacted by this idea for better or worse.

· The panel will then poke holes into the idea, bring up new expansions on top of the idea and otherwise speak on the relevance of the idea in general.

Panelists: David Pessis (Founder Fippex) (http://www.linkedin.com/in/dpessis), Patrick Muffo (Patent Lawyer, Seyfarth Shaw) (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/patrick-muffo/9/783/56a), Amish Tolia (Co-Founder of Apparel Media) (http://www.apparelmedia.com/our-story/management-team/)

Build

· Two accomplished Software Developers will then sit on the second panel to discuss how they would go about building the idea by using either Ruby on Rails or .NET and the pros and cons of using one vs the other.

· The panel will then try to convince the audience on which technology would suit the application the best and find out by a vote.

Panelists: Kris Wagner (http://www.linkedin.com/in/kriswagner) (Microsoft MVP), Sean Corbett (http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=7991525&authType=name&authToken=Sn5O&locale=en_US&pvs=pp&trk=ppro_viewmore) (Co-Founder of Havemyshift.com)

Go

· Just because it’s built doesn’t mean it will “go” by itself. In this final panel, there will be seasoned industry veterans that have run successful teams and/or companies to give their opinion on how to run a successful organization.

· How to hire correctly (interviewing, identification, offers)

· How to fire correctly

· How to motivate your team/company to perform at higher levels.

· Vision

· How to manage

Panelists: Joseph de Castelnau (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/joseph-de-castelnau/1/34/820) (VP of Engineering @ Marketing Analytics) Doug Wilson (http://www.linkedin.com/in/wilsond) (Managing Partner @ Breakthrough Technologies) Justyn Howard (http://www.linkedin.com/in/justynhoward) (Founder, CEO @ Sprout Social)
