Tech In Motion 14!

  • July 10, 2013 · 6:00 PM

It's the most wonderful time of the year! No, it's not the Winter Holidays... it's moving season!

Ya know, that time of the year when you constantly stress out about whether or not you are going to have a roof over your head in the coming months. Crossing your fingers you can live in that IDEAL location: 5 steps from public transportation, conveniently located restaurants and shops, a Trader Joe's around the block, and let's not even get started on the parking situation...

We've all been there, and the industry is coming alive from the innovative solutions being brought to us by some of Chicago's finest start-ups. This month, we are embracing the moving season and highlighting some of the newest services to take advantage of!

Renturway -

Renturway is an apartment marketplace built by Chicago agents and renters FOR Chicago agents and renters.  We focus on supplying agents with an unparalleled way to market apartments, while offering renters easy access to search and set appointments.  By organizing and automating the day-to-day operations of agents, we can provide a simple and streamlined renting process.

Founded by Jason Rowland, Renturway works closely with over 25 local real estate companies, which means our inventory is constantly changing.  In addition, we have leveraged strategic partnerships with Faspark, Rentalutions and Movingboxesnow that directly benefit both our members (agents) and Chicago renters.

Faspark -

Faspark is the leader in street parking information. It was Co-Founded by Eyal Amir - University of Illinois Professor and Standford Alum - and Sergei Kozyrenko - DePaul alum who has worked with notable organizations like Argonne National Laboratory and UBS Bank. Faspark's technology helps drivers looking for street parking in today's metropolitan areas. It uses proprietary and public data sources to recommend optimized driving routes that reduce the search time for street parking by up to 70%. Faspark currently offers complete coverage of Chicago, IL and Munich, Germany. This includes all free, permit, and metered spots. Faspark now also shows information on parking structures near the user's location.

FASPARK - WE HELP YOU FIND STREET PARKING!

Moving Boxes Now -

Moving Boxes Now was founded in 2006 when its creator, Chris Perjes recognized that there were no Eco-friendly moving box services in the Chicago area. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a ground-breaking “green” idea, Moving Boxes Now was born.

Bringing recycled boxes in great shape to locals on the move all over and around Chicago, we provide an affordable alternative to buying new moving boxes. With prices around half of what you’d pay to buy new boxes and free delivery inside Chicago, Moving Boxes Now is truly a revolutionary service on a mission to provide extraordinary customer satisfaction with an eco-friendly twist.

Moving Boxes Now is here to serve local Chicagoans with an unprecedented level of service and provide an eco-friendly resource for your moving needs.

Rentalutions -

Founded by Ryan Coon, the premise for Rentalutions is that landlords and property managers deserve to have a solution that automates, organizes, and simplifies the process. This is why we developed and integrated the Rentalutions rental cycle model into our software.

With Rentalutions doing the thinking for you, you no longer have to remember handing a security deposit receipt to your tenant. You no longer have to dig around looking for the right lease templates - we'll give them to you.

So, whether you're trying to grow your property business, avoid making foolish mistakes that lead to costly lawsuits, or just trying to gain a room back in your house from your filing cabinets, our online software can help. You're not alone - Rentalutions is with you!

We're looking forward to hearing from all of our featured start-ups! As always, free food and beverages will be provided by our sponsors, Jobspring Partners and Workbridge Associates.

The TiM 14 meetup was particularly valuable for us attendees as the four startups were carefully-shortlisted to have a potential connect between their business, and represented a good flavor of the requirements of Chicago market. The session provided a great networking platform along with food and drinks.

First I'd like to say The organizers did a great job with the whole setup, the participants and the presenters were awesome. The questions posed to the start-ups were well received. I had my reservations on the type of environment this was in my mind and it was much greater than I expected, the group was filled with really bright minds that were highly approachable.

Hi...This event looks interesting. "Faspark currently offers complete coverage of Chicago, IL and Munich, Germany." I wonder why these areas...is it because founders are from these places or just the easy availability of data?

Hey there, great question. it's a bit of both actually. I am German ;) but we also wanted to prove that our concept is internationally scalable. Munich is also known as a great automotive location. As for chicago, our CEO and CTO both live here. Talk to you later. Best, Gerhard

Hi All, I am new to Chicago and need help to identify the most affordable and time-saving commute option from Gurnee / Waukegan. Could somebody please help?

If you drive, check out ParkWhiz.com (http://www.parkwhiz.c...) to save some hassles and reserve guaranteed parking, or tonight's guest Faspark for street parking info. (Disclaimer, I work for ParkWhiz :)

Mila and Mark, thank you so much for the tip. I'm planning to use the Metra from Waukegan to Chicago OTC, followed by a walk / cab.

SJ, you will likely take the Union PAcific North Line from Waukegan to Ogilvie Transportation Center (500 W Madison). From there the Mart is walkable.
