Back to School Ed Tech Demos & Drinks

Details

The end of August brings memories of preparing for back to school - buying new backpacks, a pen pouch, maybe even a trapper keeper if you were really cool. But the lists for kids these days read a little differently. Many schools even require the use of tablets. For our August event, we thought it would be interesting to explore this growing relationship between technology and education.

We have several ed-tech companies joining us to demo their platforms and products. Come out for some free food and drink and learn how tech is changing the way we teach and learn!

Featured demoers: digedu (http://digedu.com/), mLevel (http://www.mlevel.com/), Packback Books (http://www.packbackbooks.com/), Jail Education Solutions (http://www.jaileducationsolutions.com/) and Overgrad (https://overgrad.com/)

About digedu (http://digedu.com/)

digedu partners with schools and districts to deliver a comprehensive technology program that meaningfully enhances teaching and learning. With digedu, learning experiences are personalized, interactive, and measurable, and can be delivered on any device, anytime, anywhere. Based on school needs and academic goals, we create a digital learning ecosystem that includes intelligent software, the latest mobile devices, implementation and support services, and a state-of-the-art Wi-Fi infrastructure, the Classroom Cloud™. The Learning Engine™, our cloud-based platform, allows teachers to individualize instruction, promote mastery, and unlock the potential of every student. Through access to more than 3,500 standards-aligned lessons created by award-winning teachers, educators can fully customize engaging content to best fit the needs of their classrooms.

About mLevel (http://www.mlevel.com/)

mLevel is a casual learning platform that represents a new paradigm in enterprise learning and skills mastery: fun and engaging games that can be played anytime and from nearly any device.

We know this kind of learning works (and that companies need it badly), because mLevel was born from a rich history of business and technology consulting to Fortune 500 companies over several years.

mLevel is the youngest division of Slalom LLC, the Seattle-based business and technology firm that also includes Slalom Consulting with more than 2,000 consultants providing a wide range of services to the Fortune 500. mLevel was created in 2012 to leverage the years of knowledge and experience garnered from working with those organizations, and to expand on the technological innovation that Slalom Consulting had been offering its clients. Our company was shaped from identifying key leaders in Slalom Consulting’s growing technology and mobile application spaces and investigating the possibility of creating a separate product division. We then looked to hire specialists in game development and user experience to round out our team. The next generation in learning delivery, mLevel reinforces and enhances any form of learning, applies learning at any stage of training, and increases productivity, proficiency and performance.

About Packback Books (http://www.packbackbooks.com/)

Packback helps students get what they need for class...so they can get on with learning.

Packback allows students to rent their textbooks as-needed with our first-of-their-kind One-Day eTextbook Rentals. Students rent on-demand for $5 or less per day, allowing them to only pay for their textbooks when they actually need to read. In addition to the core eRental service, Packback offers a price comparison tool for buying and selling textbooks, allowing students to get more value out of their textbooks.

The Packback team believes that getting a college education should provide students with a secure future, not condemn them to a lifetime of insurmountable student debt. With current student debt now topping over $1Trillion, and an average year of textbooks costing a student on average $1,200...Packback is working hard to create more affordable, accessible textbook solutions that work for the needs of students today.

In March, Packback appeared on Shark Tank, receiving an investment from Mark Cuban and airing to over 8,000,000 people nationally. Afterwords, Packback's vision of affordable textbooks took on a life of its own, with nearly 20 thousand students across the country joining our movement to put an end to rising textbook prices. Since the public launch, the Packback team has grown to include 7 full-time staff, 10 incredible student marketing managers and over 120 campus brand ambassadors nationally.

About Jail Education Solutions (http://www.jaileducationsolutions.com/)

Jail Education Solutions (JES) is dedicated to improving inmate outcomes during incarceration and after release by introducing tablet technology to enable self-driven education. National studies establish that investment in inmate education leads to reduced recidivism and savings to taxpayers. However, programming in correctional facilities can be extremely limited. JES grants inmates access to an immense collection of educational and vocational resources which would otherwise be unavailable.

About Overgrad (https://overgrad.com/)

Overgrad is a web platform that empowers high schools students to set their own trackable college goals as early as their freshman year, removing the uncertainty that surrounds college admissions. High schools adopting Overgrad receive access to comprehensive dashboards that help them make data-driven decisions on how to improve college readiness amongst their students while Overgrad's university customers use Overgrad to identify and track student interest by academic, demographic, and socioeconomic metrics.

Bootstrapped from the start, Overgrad serves over 20,000 students and has eight university customers including Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
