We are so excited to finally announce this event! It's been in the works for months, and we think it's going to be great. The Philadelphia women-in-tech community has been growing and thriving, and we wanted to offer an additional platform for women to connect with one another.

This event will focus on five amazing women with varied tech backgrounds. All of these ladies are very active in the tech community, and most are involved in organizations that are actively trying to change the women-in-tech landscape. We've asked them to talk about about their educations, careers, issues they have faced, professional and personal triumphs within the tech community, and what they hope to see happen to the community in the future.

This is an inclusive event, and all are welcome.

Event Schedule

6:00-7:00: Free food and networking with other tech enthusiasts

7:00-8:30: Speakers will present individually for 10 minutes, with a 15 minute panel-style Q&A

8:30-Onwards: After party downstairs at Han Dynasty

Jessica is a Philadelphia-based User Experience (UX) designer and researcher who speaks, writes, and volunteers for many things UX. She has spoken internationally at conferences such as SXSW, Midwest UX, IA Summit, and UX Camp Ottawa. She’s an organizer for UX Book Club Philly and served as an officer from 2009-2010 for PhillyCHI, Philadelphia’s UX community. Previously a senior experience designer at Happy Cog, she is now senior UX specialist at AWeber

Elise Wei is a technical lead and front-end engineer at Monetate. Her specialties include HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, though she also has experience in PHP, VB, and C#. She is a musician and operates what her husband refers to as the "gluten-free test kitchen" out of their home. You may have seen her fronting a rock band, presenting at the 2012 Geek Awards, teaching or assisting a Girl Develop It class, or volunteering at other women-in-tech events around the city.

Melissa is a designer, a maker, and an all around nice girl who recently began navigating the startup world. After 10 years of working in the corporate, in-house environment, she escaped to her dream career as the designer for tech startup, Curalate, the marketing suite for the visual web. In addition, Melissa has been a speaker at HOW Design Live and is currently an organizer of Philly Startup Weekend. Her likes include long walks on the beach, retractable erasers, peanut butter, indie rock, plaid, Instagram, karaoke, margaritas, and a worn in pair of chucks. Her dislikes include snark, wind, PowerPoint, vegetables, unloading the dishwasher, making logos bigger, PMS 349, and writing bios.

Jumoke Dada is the Creative Director of Signature RED, a marketing and communications company. Previously, she worked in the field of information technology as an application developer, systems analyst, and project manager after receiving her B.S. in Computer and Information Sciences from Temple University. Through her Legally AMBITIOUS brand, she hosts educational networking events for women. She has begun utilizing her marketing and tech experience to host workshops like 'Rails Girls Philly' and 'Building iOS Mobile Apps' to encourage more women to enter the STEM space. During the summer she also gives back to college-bound girls through her Project A.L.O.E initiative. Learn more at JumokeDada.me.

Sue Grinius-Hill has 30 years of experience in the technology field. Her career spans math and technology education, telecommunications, software development, IT management, global technology services and customer engagement around technology solutions. Her bias is always toward being on the leading edge of the business area she’s focused upon, and bringing new ideas and programs to fruition. She spent 20 years at Microsoft leading teams around the company during the most high growth and dynamic times in that company’s history. Sue is presently finishing up a dual MBA at Cornell and Canada’s Queen’s universities, and advising a local startup, ApprenNet, as CTO/COO. She co-chaired the 2013 Philly Women In Tech Summit which kicked off Philly Tech Week. She’s an advocate and mentor for both women and girls in STEM fields.
