June 2016: Tech comm in sales & marketing

Details
It’s been said that you should keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Many departments consider marketing to be the enemy, based on the (flawed) perception of marketing as unnecessary "fluff" or filled with compulsive liars (as popularized in Dilbert).
In this session, we’ll see a different side of marketing: a side that emphasizes technical accuracy, and that places strategic importance on clarity of communication and a comprehensive library of ungated, customer-facing highly technical content.
We’ll see how technical communicators and marketers at Sandvine cooperate in leveraging this content to achieve competitive differentiation, to create leads, and to accelerate sales.
About the speaker:
Since 2000, Lee Brooks has worked in various high-tech roles—transitioning from engineering through product management and into product marketing—across a diverse range of organizations including start-ups, large corporations, and the Canadian Space Agency.
He joined Sandvine in 2005, and is currently the Director, Product Marketing. In this role, he defines Sandvine’s solution, technology, and product messaging.
Lee is a graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Computer Engineering program, and is a proud member of the university’s President’s Circle of donors.
Outside of work, he can be found on the region’s soccer pitches and bike trails, or frantically trying to keep his blog up-to-date.
NOTE: This event will be preceded at 6:00 pm by the STC Southwestern Ontario Chapter AGM. If you're a chapter member, please plan to attend! It's close to meal time, so we'll have pizza available.
