Earlier this year we featured several lightening talks including Hadoop in 15, which discussed Hadoop as a platform powered by YARN (Yet Another Resource Negotiator) to help lay the foundation for storing, managing and processing data at scale. Whether data is structured, semi-structured, or unstructured, Hadoop sets the stage for organizations to gain amazing insights into their information. However just as in any data management and analytics strategy, the source and quality of data used is key. Attempting to curate, cleanse, transform and store data quickly and securely can be a challenging even in small amounts. Also the development time to perform this work can be a magnitude of weeks to months extending the time and reducing the ROI for companies looking to capitalize on data insights

Apache NiFi is an open source application that helps users to solve many of the problems faced when attempting to obtain and prepare data for Hadoop and related technologies, including Hive. In this talk we will review Hadoop and Hive and demonstrate how Apache NiFi can be used to quickly get data into those and other platforms.

Yolanda Davis is Senior Software Engineer at Hortonworks, a Committer on the Apache NiFi project, and co-founder of ToC. She is following up her outstanding talk "Hadoop in 15" to tell us more about Hadoop & Hive and how you can get to a solution a bit sooner using Apache NiFi.
