Songkran Festival 2012 -- Thai New Year 2555

Thai Songkran Festival 2012!

Based on some of our past experiences at this annual event, this is an interesting experience & delicious food!  There will be many meetup groups going.

The website for Wat Thai is here: http://www.watthaidc.org/ ;

See the announcement here: http://www.watthaidc.org/watdc2012/index.php

The festival's schedule for the day will be posted later.  Any time is a great time to go, but there are also scheduled activities & presentations.  There are grassy areas off to the side where people spread out blankets and have picnics.

Some people may need rides... update if you can offer a ride, or if you need a ride. The closest metro station is Glenmont

How to get there & park & find us:
Lots of people wind up parking in the local streets, and here is what the entrance looks like from Layhill Road to the side streets - street view - click here. (Red Line).

Keep going north on Layhill Road, and the location is on the left (west) side, as shown in this street view:

We'll meet near the circle - at the steps in front of the temple - and the circle is showing in the center of this satellite viewclick here for view.

    Very, very nice. Just wasn't able to locate the group, and wish there was closer parking.

    There is a grassy area near the street, with a steep hill coming down into the festival area (if it is like last years' festivals). I will try to be near there, perhaps in the shade if there is space. My mobile number is[masked] if anyone has a question today about the event (call/text).

    Any place in particular that you're setting up 'base camp'? Or just look for the 'meetup' sticker?

    Someone said there is a shuttle from Glenmont metro. For any large festival (like today's Japanese festival in DC) it's hard to find everyone. I will take a blanket to make a picnic area for a "base camp". I may have a cooler & put a "meetup" sticker on it. People will probably walk around for most of the time. It will be hot, and sunny. Bring sunscreen (if you need it) and water. If anyone is coming from Baltimore and can give a ride to 1 or 2 members there, please contact me.
