Multi-Device Interactions with the Web

Multi-Device Interactions with the Web - Ben Foxall

We usually interact with the web through a single device, even when we’ve got several other web-enabled devices nearby. I’ll talk about sharing an interaction across multiple devices to push past the constraints of a single browser app.

I’ll cover the concepts required to produce this kind of interface, discuss the web technologies that are key to making this interaction a reality and show the new kinds of interactions that we can create.

Part demo, part talk, part interactive session - bring your devices and expect to participate.

Ben is a senior developer at White October.

Practical Responsive Images - Ben Seymour
Images have just become responsive, thanks to changes in browser technologies. Recent progress with the <picture> element and srcset attribute means that this major constraint in a fundamental aspect of modern web development is being overcome. Coupled with a capable Dynamic Imaging System, we are close to making Responsive Images a truly Practical prospect.

Ben will show you how to do it and what benefits and approaches you can look forward to taking advantage of now, and in the near future.

Ben Seymour has extensive experience in eCommerce, Dynamic/Rich Media, Conversion Optimisation, Digital Marketing - leading the successful delivery of over 50 projects for online retailers and global brands. He is currently the Director of Solutions Consulting at a Shoreditch based eCommerce solution provider, and prior to that spent 5 years with Adobe Systems.

♦ Establishing a new Dynamic Media Solution in eCommerce
♦ Technology and Product Evangelism at Developer Events
♦ Responsibility for Professional Services Team and client projects
♦ Tech pre-sales for key and strategic Dynamic Media Solutions
♦ Conference and Webinar Adobe subject matter expert

Wow excellent presentations, enjoyable and informative. I fear I'm going to have an uproductive day with the amount of new technology I'll be researching!

Where's the best place to park?

At the risk of giving way a little gem: Simmonds Street behind the building opposite ZeroDegrees has no parking restrictions. Of course it's always very busy.

The aim of the main meeting is to introduce people to eachother in an informal setting and get them talking. A pub is best for that. It also needs to be in the centre of Reading, walkable from the train and free to hire. If you can find another location then I'm happy to consider it.
What I have done is negotiate space at Reading Business Centre for workshops and smaller meetings where we can learn in a quieter more work focused environment.
