It is quite far from from the simplicity of hair splitting.
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three in one. It is the mystery
of the Holy Trinity, a unifying thread among Christians.
Jesus was never and never will be separate from God, nor the Holy
Spirit. To suggest such is to move towards the trap of heresy.
If you profess the Nicene Creed, you profess Jesus was "...begotten
not made, one in being with the Father. ..."
Yes he called himself a son. Do you not call yourself a son? But
does that mean you are not a father, a husband and a friend? Yet you
are the same person.
This human example is not representative of the essence of the
Trinity. But it was an example which once helped me understand the
mystery of the Trinity a bit better.
We know there is only one true God. But it is easy to misunderstand
the issue of Christian relationship to Islam, peaceful or radical.
Muslims profess belief in the God of Abraham, belief that God
created the world, and belief that God will be our judge on the last
day. In that we have a common belief with both Muslims and Jews.
Beyond that differences can be great. Christians believe in a
merciful God. While I'm not an expert in Islam, we know from their
professions that some Muslims do not believe God is merciful. We
call God, Father. Yet at least some Muslims consider that egregious
blasphemy. And as Shawn correctly said, they do not believe Jesus to
be God, but just another human prophet. There are many other

You have an interesting and common perspective. We are splitting hairs. There are hundreds of references in the New Testament where Jesus distinguishes himself separate from God. He refers to his Father in Heaven, and he as the Son of God.
