About the group: 

The Active AZ Families Meetup Group was founded in March 2010 by a local single mother of 3 boys, Holly Hunter. 

Holly grew up in an active outdoorsy family in Kansas but has called Arizona home for over 12 years. Growing up, her family camped, they fished, they hunted, they explored. Then she grew up and had kids of her own, only to realize that she wasn't doing most of the fun things that she grew up doing with her own sons. What a tragedy.

This is when she picked up the book "Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit Disorder" by Richard Louv. This book had a profound effect on her life. She made a conscious decision to start getting outdoors with her children more. She bought a tent and started taking them camping, hiking and exploring and she found herself being reborn. She found her bliss. This is when she decided she needed to share her passion with other families...to help them share their love of nature with their own children.

Today, the Active AZ Families Meetup Group has grown to 300+ FAMILIES...not just members but FAMILIES. The incredible thing is that everyone who joins this group tends to join for the same reason...to find more ways to bond with their kids in THE GREAT OUTDOORS but to do it in an environment that encourages an easygoing, healthy, fun and safe interaction with the outdoors.

Our members experience levels range from beginners all the way up to "experts". We are parents first and our children are our motivation and our drive. We're here to teach them, to bond with them and to grow with them. This TIME that we put in is a HUGE INVESTMENT that is PRICELESS...and we all know it!
