Big Real-Time Learning and Applying Deep Learning

Details
Already time for our second meetup. This time we are gathering at the Copernica (http://www.copernica.com/nl) office, who have also kindly offered to provide us with pizza and drinks.
We have two talks again. First up is Sean Owen, who has recently been working mostly on real-time / online recommender and clustering systems. As a second speaker we welcome Tijmen Blankevoort, who is working on Deep Learning at Scyfer.
Agenda:
• 18.00: Arrive, socialize, have a drink and eat pizza
• 18.50: Short introduction by your humble organizers
• 19.00: Talk 1, by Sean Owen, Director of Data Science for EMEA at Cloudera
Design Patterns for Large-Scale Real-Time Learning
Having collected Big Data, organisations are now keen on Big Learning. However, building production-ready large-scale machine learning systems remains hard on Hadoop, especially when real-time answers are required. Effective implementations must take advantage of relaxed assumptions, adopt a new 2-tier architecture, and pick the right scale-friendly algorithms to succeed. Drawing on experience from Apache Mahout, Myrrix, and new projects at Cloudera, this session will provide answers: a reference architecture and algorithm design choices for a successful and production-ready large-scale real-time learning system.
• 19.45: short break
• 20.00: Talk 2, by Tijmen Blankevoort, Co-Founder at Scyfer
Neural Networks and Deep Learning
Tijmen will give an introduction to Neural Networks and Deep Learning. From the beginnings of the earliest Neural Network to the current state of affairs, the lecture will provide a comprehensive understanding of what Deep Learning is and how it is applied in practice.
• 20.45: more drinks and social talks
• 21.30 or later: everybody out! (out of the room, that is; there will be a nearby bar happy to serve you)
