The Answer Model is an exciting new model of human behavior that suggests many of us can become unconsciously addicted to our own pain and distress. Emotional distress triggers the release of stress hormones that are known to have many of the same effects in the brain as addictive drugs like methamphetamine. Because distressing "survival-mode" states, such as fear and anxiety, trigger the release of substantial amounts of endorphin and other rewarding brain chemicals, many people frequently become driven into such states for the "drug payoffs" that they supply.
The Answer Model, which was co-developed by John Montgomery, a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, and Todd Ritchey, an addiction specialist, also involves a therapeutic system that has been shown to be extraordinarily effective in treating a wide range of psychological and physical ills, including anxiety disorders, chronic depression, chronic pain, body dysmorphic disorder, sex addiction, and drug addiction.
The Answer Model also uses the concept and phenomenon of biochemical addiction to bridge western neuroscience and eastern spirituality. The model arrives at many of the same conclusions as Buddhism, for example, but is firmly grounded in western science.
