Mission:
Formed in early May 2009, The Art Song Preservation Society of New York (ASPS) is dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the art song while simultaneously promoting the art song recital.

Through pragmatic monthly workshop discussions, lectures, master class series, concert and recital performances, competitions, outreach programs and education for singers, accompanists and the broader public, ASPS plans to ensure that New York’s classical singers, accompanists and art song enthusiasts always have access to performing and/or appreciating this area of classical vocal literature through the financial support of patrons and grants for the arts. ASPS also promotes the art song through showcasing the talents of a roster of singers who make up this unique art song company. ASPS will advance the art song by servicing three groups: 1) singers, teachers, accompanists, and performers; 2) composers and academic researchers and 3) non-singing enthusiasts and the public community. The organization is designed to help these groups explore and develop a sense of the rich repertoire by such great composers as Schubert, Strauss, Wolf, Faure, Duparc, Debussy, Purcell, Dowland, Britten, Barber, Duke, Rorem and many more including contemporary composers of the genre. Our organization gives emerging and established composers of the art song a place to make themselves known to their key public – singers, teachers, accompanists and enthusiasts! Since the text from an art song is derived from poetry, the fact that it is the unification of two art forms - the poetic text and music – makes it one of the greatest (albeit oftentimes most neglected) gifts in the realm of classical music. When the ideal proportions are met: the heartfelt piano accompaniment, the exquisite voice and the endearing poetry; one cannot help but be affected by it. It touches the mind. It touches the soul. It touches humanity.

This is a refuge for emerging concert recitalists! “If Music Be The Food of Love, Sing on, Sing on, Sing on!”. So if you have a genuine interest in the fusion of word and tone, rhythm of language, and the quality and beauty of the human voice, come experience the exuberance and joy of art song singing.
