10 Week Summer Session – Securing Aspects of Vocal Technique.
Have voice lessons become too costly? Are you a singer who is unclear on what is holding you back from a technical perspective? Are you simply looking for the chance to improve your technique?
If finances are a problem for one on one voice study (and even if they are not), there is great value in attending a small group class because many of the same basic principals need to be outlined. Voice studio classes can provide a supportive environment for less advanced singers. Group lessons can also be beneficial to more advanced singers because it can provide an opportunity to share concepts about the voice and with a chance to sing before peers.

This summer I will be offering a unique 10 week voice studio class from June 12th-Aug 22nd that will focus on identifying, isolating and correcting technical aspects of vocal production. There will be two groups (beginner and advanced) with roughly 4 singers in each group. Depending upon each group’s schedule we are likely looking at a late afternoon or early evening class of 60-70 min in length once a week (exact day to be determined, please message me immediately with any preferences and/or conflicts). Students will end the summer with a firmer grasp on technique and a better understanding of the foundation of good singing. This summer session is designed to build resources for developing the power, quality, range, and control of the singer’s instrument.
Focus each week will be on establishing proper vocal coordination through vocal exercises and time will be devoted to the following areas:
· The speaking voice/The singing voice
· The importance of Posture in singing
· Breathing guidelines and principals -
· Principals for Support In singing
· Phonation – cultivating a healthy tone
· Registration - Develop a procedural model for ironing out the passaggio
· Extending the range
· Basic understanding of metre, rhythm, and diction in the poetry of various songs
· “Explication de texte” – critical examination of song text including a detailed analysis and look at the emotional response in poetry
I am evaluating both a midtown location as well as a studio on the upper west side. I’ll have a final idea on which studio we will be using over the next two weeks (TBA).
The cost of the summer program is a reduced one-time rate of $250 for the 10 sessions or the regular weekly rate of $30 each week. Please be advised that this is a summer studio group class being taught by a graduate candidate in the final semester of the Master of Vocal Pedagogy program at Westminster Choir College. Individual lessons can also be scheduled privately. Please message me to discuss or call[masked]-7829.
