In this time of economic downturn and re-evaluation of food cost and sustainability, it is time to put this in practice! It's called Community Kitchens. They consist of folks coming together, once or twice a month for a few hours to prepare large quantities of simple, nutritious and inexpensive freezer-friendly foods to take home. It's a way to connect with like-minded people. It's fun and kids can participate as well. I envision a sit-down meal at the end of the preparation (and, who knows, a music jam?). Depending on the interest level, we could set up several kitchens across town. Groups, depending on size, will use facilities such as community centers, church kitchens or just a well-equipped kitchen in someone's home. Once I get a small group signed up, we can have an organizational meeting. For more info on this concept: http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/009954.html
