February 2010 Meeting

  • Feb 5, 2010 · 5:30 PM
  • Emory University Woodruff Library

The third Atlanta Semantic Web Meetup will happen on Friday February 5th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at the Emory University Woodruff Library. This is a change of venue so make sure you check out the map! The first half hour will be for socializing & networking with other folks in the semantic web community, followed by topical discussion / presentations from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Where else can you possibly do that!

The topics for discussion at this meeting are:

- Greetings and member introductions
- Member presentation on Semantifi Search Platform
- Semantic Web Basic Intro - Part 2
- Discussion on various tools
- Ways of becoming involved / Ways to market & grow the group
- Next meeting time & place
* Note: the agenda is subject to change if it can be made better - it will be updated here if this is the case.

Emory University Woodruff Library, 540 Asbury Circle, Atlanta, Georgia 30322
The meetup is in Room 773, take the elevators in the back of the library - there is no 6th floor in the front part of the library. The link has information on parking. The gates in parking decks go up at 4pm - so there is no charge at that time.

For those that want to hang out and socialize, I've heard good things about the Emory Inn - we may decide to walk over and hang out - it's supposed to be a little more conducive to conversation than TAP is! You can reach me at[masked] if you have questions.

Glad to see a more congenial venue this time!

I enjoyed this meetup. Schedule was a bit loose due to some folks not arriving at appointed time. Location couldn't be easier for me, but I wonder about others. I would love to have it continue at Emory though - we should just post more detailed directions next time.

I got a lot out of the overview, discussion of tools and demo. Not enough time for the presentation of the new product but perhaps we'll hear more later.

Vishy Dasari spoke on the "Semantifi" Search Platform that his company is developing. He demonstrated that based on plain english queries, Semantifi could attain excellent precision & recall in the datasets that it was trained to use. Semantifi looks very interesting! Thanks Vishy.

Rick Thomas gave an excellent presentation introducing tools & techniques for more advanced development. This included discussion about the "nosql" movement (and the move to webscale text databases/indexes such as riak), and an overview of AllegroGraph and Exhibit. THANKS Rick!
