Did you know that San-Jose-based chipmaker Altera just signed a 10-year lease in Travis Oaks... and they plan to employ between 200 and 300 people at this new research facility?

Altera Finds Its Austin Home (http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/print-edition/2011/06/10/altera-finds-its-austin-home.html) (Austin Business Journal)

I didn't know. Not until new group member Jeff Stripling (https://www.meetup.com/The-Austin-C-C-Meetup-Group/members/48157322/) told me. He is an engineer at Altera, who has also worked for Motorola, Siemens, and Crossroads.

So I invited Jeff to come and talk about Altera's system-on-a-chip activity in Austin, and the jobs they have available. He says they're working on "merging programmable hardware with programmable software." He might have the go-ahead to tell us a bit more than you'd find on the website, and hopefully this will be the most technical Coffee-and-Career-Talk yet!

This meetup leans a little more toward career networking than the North one. But it also does double-duty as our South Austin programmer-talk gathering, so you certainly don't have to be unemployed or underemployed to attend! We can talk about code, or just ramble about technology in general...

Last time I did this on a Wednesday, and I'm doing so again. If you can't make the day but would have liked to come on a Tuesday or Thursday, then write some feedback along with your "No" RSVP.

NOTE: The venue has food--as well as wine and beer--in case anyone was worried.
