Bicycle to bodega and Calçotada

  • January 11, 2014 · 7:30 AM

It's Calçots time again!

There's a coupon offer by Canals & Munné for €29 which includes a visit to their bodega, a Calçotada, and a bottle of their wine. The coupon must be purchased by January 6th, and is then usable until sometime in March.

I propose a ride on Saturday January 11, split in to two (possibly three) options to suit various levels of cyclists:

1. Moderate riders will start by RENFE Rodalies train from Plaça de Catalunya at 8.20am to arrive at Martorell at 8.56am. There they'll relax with a coffee, awaiting the arrival of the more advanced group.

2. More advanced riders optionally will bicycle from Plaça de Catalunya at 7.30am traversing the 28km to Martorell in about one and a half hours (we must be in Martorell before 9.30am).

The two groups will join up at 9:30am to continue another 35km from Martorell through the upper Penedès to Piera and then down to Sant Sadurni d'Anoia, where we must arrive before Noon, which is when the visit to Canals & Munné begins.

We'll have the visit to the bodega, then the Calçotada.

Afterwards, most people will return directly to the Sant Sadurni d'Anoia RENFE station for the next train back to Barcelona.

Advanced riders who are interested (and who in my sole judgment are still road-worthy after the Calçotada!) may ride further, a route to be determined by me at the time.

Here's the coupon link (along with full information about the visit, the Calçotada menu, and the gift bottle of wine that the package includes):

Everyone must purchase their own coupon, and the coupon must be purchased before Monday evening January 6th late in the evening. I will reserve the bodega visit and Calçotada directly with Canals & Munné for all of us, but everyone must have their own coupon, printed on paper, in hand, when we arrive in Sant Sadurni d'Anoia on January 11th!

Please be prepared with a backpack or panniers or whatever, to be able to carry your own gift bottles of wine back to the train after the Calçotada. Anyone who arrives unprepared to carry their bottle will forfeit it to me :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) (or may make such other arrangements as the law of supply and demand allows in-situ).

Fue una excursión preciosa y una visita muy interesante. Un grupo de ciclistas fantástico...aunque con todo lo que comimos, el grupo moderado echamos en falta un poco más de bici. je,je. Pero fue realmente un día buenísimo a pesar de todo. Gracias

We've got a nice evenly split group, 4 advanced riders and 4 moderate riders. I need someone from the moderate group to get our moderate riders together at the train station in Barcelona and on the train to Martorell on Saturday morning. Anyone want to volunteer? Contact me, please (or else I'll volunteer someone :-) ).

Hi everyone! A reminder, you MUST bring a PAPER PRINTED copy of your Calçotada coupon with you to give to the folks at Canals & Munné, so everyone please make sure you have it.

Hi Bob. Welcome! You've posted a reply to a specific ride - our January 11th ride to a Calçotada. Thanks for your comments about the group - your thoughts are largely why Michel and I started the group several years ago!
Are you interested in joining the Calçotada ride on the 11th?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
