Curry -the food of gods

Ah, curry -can you ever have too much? Well, I don't have it for breakfast. At least, not since I was a student...

The Bengal Brasserie is a great little place in a cellar on Milsom Street. Lesser known than the Rajpoot and the Eastern Eye, this restaurant has in fact been here for 25 years. Understated and unassuming, it nevertheless serves excellent food, more modestly priced than the aforementioned. And it's quieter too.

Note: the bill will be split equally. Attending means you agree to this.

Thanks, Richard for organising this. It was a great meal, good value and a new place for me. Once again, met lovely new people and enjoyed seeing people I had met before. This group is good!

Oh no ive developed a nasty cough. Apart from being highly unattractive, I think a cough with curry could prove quite messy! Sorry to cancel but it gives the next person on the list a night out. Have fun. Anj

Richard does this mean the important guest isn't coming ? :-) Ag shame ! old S.African phrase

I've increased the limit to 11. I may bring an important guest, taking the number up to 12 -that's three booths of 4. If my guest doesn't attend, I will increase the limit to 12. What we can't have is 13. Apart from being grievously unlucky, the 13th person screws up my image of perfect seating symmetry and conversational democracy. All clear? As an azure sky on a July afternoon.

Oxford Classical Dictionary? No, I'm afraid not, but I do have a very handy history of the Roman Empire by Colin Wells. Hardly a reference text but still very readable.

Great, I'm on the list! As I'm number 12 does that mean I'm the "very important guest" ?! 8-). Guess the answer is no but very much looking forward to attending. Lived here for over 5 years and still not been to this restaurant.

It's Friday evening, you've had a tiring week, you've kicked off your shoes and you're sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea, running your fingers over the velvet bobbliness of the spine of your cat. It's so warm and comfortable, the thought of going out again into the centre of Bath for a curry has lost its appeal.

We've all been there. Admittedly, I don't have a cat. And I work at home. And I live close to the restaurant. And frankly my sofa isn't that comfortable. But the point is: be a good egg and change your RSVP!

    Hi,

What does this evening involve and can anyone come?

    February 23, 2013

    • Richard

Hi Claire. Yes, anyone can come. Some of the people attending have met before, other haven't. Unfortunately, this event is currently full but you can put yourself on the waiting list by RSVPing yes. You might get on, if people drop out.

What does the evening involve? We meet in the restaurant foyer. We consume unfeasibly large amounts of Indian food and indulge in sparkling banter. Then the bill arrives!

I've deliberately kept the numbers low because I think that small dining groups makes for a better experience for everyone. We will be seated in two groups of 4. But I will set up a waiting list. Secondly, I split the bill equally (unless someone starts ordering bottles of champagne!) By attending you agree to this.
