Chef Cafe - Mountain View

Have questions about Chef? Are you doing some cool stuff with Chef and what to share it with others chefs? Come to Red Rock Coffee in Mountain View and meet me, Rob and other Bay Area Chef users. We will meet on the first and third Thursday of the month between 5pm - 7pm. Look for an Opscode Chef sticker (most of the time we will be at the 2nd floor, but I will post an update if we can't find enough space).

Note: This is an informal meeting (that's why we meet at a cafe) and we welcome everyone regardless of your experience with chef. If you have questions this is a great place to ask them and establish the connections with people that can help you in the future. There is no presentation on these chef cafe meetings, and if you want to share something in a more formal way please let us know and we will schedule a separate meetup for that.

Good seeing some new faces at the Cafe. Want to share some links that related to some of the things talked about today:

Yulia and others had asked about Best Practices for writing cookbooks and testing cookbooks. Here is a great overview of How to Write Reusable Chef Cookbooks and has some links to other posts:

Here is a good blog post on the upcoming Test Kitchen 1.0 cookbook testing framework that uses Fletcher Nichol's "Jamie" which is very different than the original (and currently released Test Kitchen). This is still "beta" software but if you are just getting started with Chef testing I think this might be the best place to start. Its probably not worth learning the old way.

There is now which is great aggregation of learning chef resources and which is all the official docs.

super session, met new people, learned a lot from everyone. With the help from many of you, especially from Rob, Marius and Ranjib, I got my chef-server working. I can play more interesting things now. Thank you.
