AWS Community - Contributions & Thought Leadership

  • Oct 15, 2012 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We would like to propose some meetup sessions relative to 'real world' AWS usage scenarios.
- Monitoring / Managing your Microsoft infrastructure in the AWS cloud
- Leveraging AWS to run your SQL environment
- Run your Dev Ops in the AWS cloud
- Security practices : Swap Meet (share ideas & best practices)
- Backing up your network via AWS Storage Gateway

And many more...
Please advise if we can discuss moving forward. We would be happy to assist with leading the effort!

Mark, I can easily spend 20 minutes reviewing a case study on a postgres based site using ELB, Varnish, postgres syncing between zones, snapshotting, and billing reports?

    October 10, 2012

    • Mark A.

Hi Russell - slots are open - and your case study sounds very interesting. Please plan for setup/presentation/questions/breakdown for the 20 minutes. Can you confirm and I'll add you to the agenda? Thank you.

Mark, thanks for stepping up to push this group forward. A meeting in October would be great!

We have additional use cases we could share - including hybrid cloud (Public/Private) which is gaining popularity - and may be able to co-sponsor the event.

Will PM you to discuss further.

    September 26, 2012

  • Mark A.

Hi Folks, Let's go with Oct 15th. From 7 to 9pm (potentially 6:30 to 9:30 if we have many presenters).
Now looking for a location - between Needham and Cambridge.
And if you would like to present, please chime in with the topic. Let's keep presentations down to 10minutes, with a 10 minute Q&A.
I can give a presentation on how Extreme Reach is using the cloud.
    Thank you!

  • Ari D.

I would definitely be interested. I am currently teaching a Cloud Computing class (Brandeis, Graduate Professional Studies) and would be happy to recommend the event to my students, as well. October 15th would work for me.

    September 24, 2012

  • Ricardo D.

I am interested. Anywhere between Needham and Cambridge would work for me.

    September 24, 2012

  • Mark A.

Thank you for the responses Adrian, Colby, Russell.
Let's target Oct 15th. It would be great to target a location that is central to the majority of our members. Group Members: Can you chime in with your interest in attending on Oct 15th? and the radius of acceptable locations?
    Thank you!

    September 24, 2012

  • Russell G.

This would be fantastic, and those dates work. I can share case studies from basic web hosting to scaled applications and load balancing.

    September 24, 2012

  • Mark A.

Great idea. This is definitely needed.
Perhaps a 3-hour meet-up, with select members presenting their use cases. How about we get commitment from the members and work this event.
Suggest: Monday night, Oct 15, or Nov 5.
Location: The Sheraton in Needham has a number of rooms available. - we would charge a small fee to cover the room.
Looking for additional comments of support and commitment, and I'll then help drive this forward.
    - Mark
