Gilt, CBS Sports, FiftyThree and Small Planet!

  • Apr 16, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We are very excited to announce a full lineup for the April Meetup - we hope to see you all there!

Gilt

Matt Isaacs, Senior Software Engineer of Gilt’s mobile team, will discuss how Gilt has streamlined testing by adopting Sauce Labs’ Appium and other automated tools. He’ll also talk about some of the technical and cultural pain points related to mobile testing, and discuss Gilt’s approach to mitigating these issues.

CBS Sports

Deepesh Banerji, Director of Product at CBSsports.com, will walk us through one of the first all-in-one Sports Fantasy App. He will also discuss technical use of sockets to create a live draft experience.

FiftyThree

Ian Macduff, developer of embedded hardware and software, will discuss the design and technical problems involved in connecting Pencil to iPads. The Internet of Things requires Bluetooth devices that can be easily moved from one host to another by non-technical users. Come see how FiftyThree worked around limitations in BLE to achieve a great user experience.

Small Planet

Quinn McHenry, Senior iOS Developer at Small Planet, will be talking about how open-source tools make application development more awesome, efficient, and fun—so you can spend more time on the code you care about.

Thanks to everyone that checked out the Grand St. Pop Up last weekend - it went really well.

If you missed it - we launched our iOS app a few days ago. Check it out here: https://appsto.re/us/O5_yY.i

Any feedback you have would rule.

A friend of mine and I are starting a web based venture, in the daily deals space. Though such sites are many, none has our model - we attempt to fix many of the pitfalls of sites like Groupon and LivingSocial. The idea has very low start up costs, is easily scale-able, likely to monetize quickly and may get bought out within short period of time. We are looking for a software coder with previous work experience with PhP, gridcake, SQL and preferably django. IoS knowledge is a plus. He/She would be the IT side of the company and would have equal stakes as the two of us. We plan to launch asap. If you are or anyone you know is interested in learning more, then please GET IN TOUCH.

Apologies, but I had to head up to Boston and missed it. Ian, (or anyone ) know if the slides for the talk on Paper are available? Would love to read through them, thank you.

We had a great time last night! It was awesome to meet everyone and to be part of such a great lineup. Here are Quinn's slides about GAXB: https://speakerdeck.com/qmchenry/the-great-gaxb. Here's also a link to the Git repository: https://github.com/smallplanet/gaxb. If anyone would be interested in a workshop about GAXB, just send me a note!

This was a really great Meetup - thoroughly enjoyed Papers’ Bluetooth dating analogy :)

Awesome event! I really enjoyed hearing how Deepesh and the team at CBS thought about their app's design. It makes me wish my friends were on it instead of ESPN.

Take the A, C, or E from the Penn Station subway to West 4th street and transfer to the F, where you should get off at York Street. Then, it's a short walking distance to 45 Main Street - I look forward to seeing you there!
