As the dust is beginning to settle on the election, you may have questions on all that occurred with True the Vote’s (TTV) efforts to observe in the polls and gather data on our election processes. Not to mention the national news coverage of, and the negative smear against, TTV Franklin County. As you all know, this was the first time for TTV to have a presence in Central Ohio and much of our hard work was new to us and a learning process. Little did we know that there were organizations planning on blocking us from early on. It is a sad reality that our Board of Election officials and both political parties did not want us citizens observing the political processes. The fact that we were blocked from placing our members in the precincts was a huge disappointment. We did, however, have poll observers in the early voting site for the entire month of October and some poll workers in the sites for Election Day. So, although we did have a presence at some precincts, it was not as extensive as we had prepared for. This is because we were pulled as observers the day before the election at the 11th hour. This, of course, was planned so that we could not fight this decision.
TTV Franklin County’s team leader is Jan Loar. She and our leadership team will be holding a briefing next week to inform anyone interested (and our team members) on just who conspired to stop ordinary citizens from observing our elections. It may anger you to learn just what went on behind our local government doors, but more importantly it may motivate you to become involved with TTV. We have much work to be done and 2016 will be here before you know it! We have research to do on the register rolls, we have data to analyze from this election that will perhaps lead to changes made in our processes. Our team is 90 strong, but we need to be bigger if we expect to have a presence in every precinct next election and to have our voter rolls cleaned up.
TTV Franklin County is a non-partisan group and we follow the model of the national True The Vote located in Texas. The organization’s mission is to ensure voter integrity and lawful elections. TTV is now in every state except Wyoming, but it needs to be in EVERY county in each of the states.
Please join us and help make a difference in future elections.
