Announcing a new Meetup for The Chicago Area Asatru Discussion Group!

What: Saturday German American Museum & Lunch

When: Saturday, December 4,[masked]:00 PM

Where: DANK Haus
4740 N. Western Ave. (4th floor museum)
Chicago, IL 60625

Join us for a Saturday afternoon visit to the DANK Chicago Museum. After our visit, we will have lunch at one of the local German restaurants (suggestions are welcome!).

The DANK Chicago Museum, located on the 4th floor of the Historic DANK-HAUS, features German-American history, traditions, artifacts and profiles of prominent German-Americans. Currently used as an educational tool for schools, DANK Chicago plans to improve and expand the Museum, developing instructive, culturally-relevant exhibits and educational, hands-on activities.

The Museum is also home to ?Lost German Chicago? in its newly created museum space. The exhibition features art, artifacts and memorabilia from within Chicago?s German American community. The items record what has been lost in the Chicago German community while archiving and preserving that which has been entrusted to DANK. Highlights include: exquisite wood carvings dedicated by the Germania Club by the Oscar Mayer family, relics from the Deutsches Haus at the Columbian Exposition, Hessen Verein standards, items from dozens of restaurants including the original Red Star Inn, Schulien?s Math Igler?s Casino, the Golden Ox, memories of St. Boniface Church, Deli Meyer, FC Hansa, the Schiller Liedertafel, Schoenhofen Brewery, Lincoln Park Turner Hall and many more.

DANK Haus (German American Cultural Center) is located at 4740 N. Western Ave., Chicago, at the heart of Lincoln Square, Chicago's historically German neighborhood. It is accessible by the Western and Lawrence bus routes, and the Western stop of the Brown line. Street parking is available.

I will be waiting for our group at the street entrance of DANK Haus, so that we can enter together. If you arrive late, look for us at the 4th floor museum.
