Announcing a new Meetup for The Circle of the Sacred Well!

What: Wiccan/Pagan Study Group -The Myth of the Matriarchy

When: Tuesday, May 18,[masked]:30 PM

Unitarian Universalist Church
96 Chapel Street
Stratford, CT 06614

Join us for this monthly Study Group, which meets on the third Tuesday of each month. This month, we will be discussing the myth surrounding the idea of an ancient pagan matriarchy. This concept involves a belief that, in ancient times, there was a peaceful, matriarchal religion that worshipped a goddess and that spanned most of the known world. What is involved in this belief? How and why did this concept develop? What effect did it have on the development of modern pagan religions, including Wicca? And, most importantly, why has it taken so long for pagans to catch up with current scholarship on this topic? And why is it important that we, as modern pagans, understand our roots and have a proper foundation in the history or our religions, both ancient and modern?

~ There is a requested $ 5.00 donation to attend Circle events at the UU church. This helps us to cover the cost of room rental and supplies.

~ Please, no children under 10, as childcare facilities are not available.

~ Allergy Alert! Candles and incense are burned at most events.

NOTE: This class is a sample of the information available in our Wicca University series of classes. Wicca University is a university-level course designed to provide those exploring the Wiccan religion with a grounding in all aspects of the religion, beginning with Wicca's roots in ancient pagan religions and its modern founding and history, and including the beliefs, and practices of the religion as it is practiced today. The course will meet once a week in the evening for 6 weeks OR for a two-day weekend workshop. We are currently determining the dates and times for the next offering of Wicca University. If you are interested in attending, please contact Mandy at (203)[masked], so we can arrange a concensus on dates and times that work best for the majority of attendees. Please note, there is a $[masked] charge for the course. This is a fund-raiser for the Circle, so all funds will go directly to the Circle.
