I hope you all had a great holiday season with friends and family! Now, let's get cracking and learn something new in the embedded space.

Please join us from 7PM to 9PM on Tuesday, March 6th, as Evan Lojewski presents a talk that I've titled "Firmware, The Boot-up Process, and You".

Description:

Users primarily interact with software running in user mode on their computers. The operating system abstracts away the low level interaction needed and allows for this high level interaction to occur. Before the operating system is loaded up, a similar abstraction layer exists - the system firmware. We'll explore the firmware and how it affects the boot process of various machines with the primary focus being on x86 as well as various ARM machines.

About Evan:

Evan Lojewski has been working with micro controllers since 2003. While capable as a high level application developer, Evan tends to focus on the low level interaction between the software and hardware, specifically anything kernel level or lower. He is one of the developers for the Chameleon boot loader project which implements an open source boot loader capable of starting up the XNU kernel on x86 hardware.

Please RSVP for the event today so we can get an idea of headcount.

When we kick off the event at 7PM, we'll do a 15-minute brainstorm of desired topics for the upcoming year and possible speakers in those areas. I'd like to begin scheduling monthly meetings as well, so getting some depth on the topic list is critical.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
