Fermentation composting utilizes indigenous microorganisms to break down food waste by fermenting or pickling the waste, which is faster than traditional pile composting.
Bokashi sustainably returns nutrients to the soil while eliminating food scraps from the waste stream. It can be used in the yard, raised beds, or even container gardens. With a bokashi system, one can process almost any food element, cooked or raw - including limited amounts of dairy and meat. It is an affordable composting system requiring minimal initial outlay - a bucket with lid, inoculated material, and food scraps.
Workshop outline:
History of the methods, Wonders of fermentation, Bokashi procedures and benefits, Hands-on inoculation process, Question and answer session "Thanks to donations by Adam's Olives ( http://www.adamsoliveranch.com http://img1.meetupstatic.com/img/clear.gif) and Whole Foods, we have 3.5 and 5 gallon buckets that we can give to the class participants for their bokashi composting."

About the Speakers
Mobokashi is a local voice of bokashi composting and provider of bokashi inoculated material, education and training. Mark and Michelle are fascinated by fermenting - whether it be compost, kombucha or beer. They found bokashi when they moved back Los Angeles and needed to be able to compost in their apartment.
After keeping over 900 pounds of waste from the landfill, Mark and Michelle were inspired to spread the word, educating others about the simplicity of the process, ease of use, and results. Healthy carrots and legions of tomatoes don’t lie.
