Wonderful experience. I spent my formative years growing up in the Bronx but never looked at the city through a photographer's viewpoint. Feet still hurting!

40% chance of rain for Saturday.......stay tuned!

    May 27, 2012

  • Bill H.

Tony, I suspect there will be lots of walking, cabs & trains. See Tom's post on May 16 at 7:27 PM that indicates our intended route and places of interest. We plan to start out together Saturday morning and of course, anyone can break from the group at any time and do their own thing. If we can work the Arch in that would be cool. See you on Saturday!

    May 23, 2012

  • Anthony Bee (.

Oh I meant to ask, how are we getting around the city? Trains? Also, are we skipping the Village and the Arch in Washington Square Park?

    May 23, 2012

  • Anthony Bee (.

I'm going to take care of some business in North Jersey on Friday so... I'll be there with you on Saturday.
    Thanks for setting this up.

I believe my plan is to head up Fri. There is a Vamoose Gold Bus Service for $60 one way that departs from Bethesda at 9:40 and drops off at Penn Station by 3:00pm. The Gold Bus offers more space and reclining leather seats and WI-FI. Hotels are less expensive in NJ with costs around $120 for the Courtyard Marriott at the Airport. Easy access to NY from the airport rail station. Anyone interested in this schedule and sharing a room let me know. Departure from NY back to VA is 3:30 pm on Sun.

We would like to get a head count on who is really planning to go. So, if your not and have signed up, please change you RSVP to "Not Attending". If you plan to go but have not RSVP'd as "Attending", please do so. Knowing the size of the group will help us refine the meetup plans. Thanks!

For those that are interested in doing The Top of The Rock observation deck on Saturday night at sunset they do not allow tripods at all. I've read a lot of blogs and people say there are plenty of places to steady your camera and the lights are so bright that you can use a higher ISO and hand hold your camera.

I found this great tip that I think I'll try.

    http://scottkelby.com/2010/tip-for-shooting-where-tripods-are-banned/

But I am going with the minimal setup. I order this today.

    2) Empire State Building

    4) Grand Central Terminal
    5) The Guggenheim Museum
    6) The USS Intrepid
    7) NY Public Library
    8) Rockefeller Center
    9) St. Patrick's Cathedral
    10) Times Square
    11) NY Stock Exchange
    12) Cathedral Church of Saint John The Devine

Some of these allow tripods, some don't.

  • Bill H.

How to get there: 1) Amtrak to Penn Station, 2) Megabus, 3) Drive your car, 4) Fly.

As of now, Tom and I plan to take Amtrak (very early Saturday). We are working on a photo route so no matter what time or how you travel, you will be able to connect with us. Some of you may choose to go for the day, some will go for the weekend. Please do whichever you are comfortable with as there will be plenty on the agenda either way.

    May 14, 2012

  • Bill H.

Ok, the plan is to go up early Saturday morning, shoot at various locations throughout the day and evening. If you decide to spend the night (Saturday) in the city and shoot again on Sunday, here are a few reasonable options:1) Comfort Inn Theater District (343 W. 44th St) and; 2) Comfort Inn Times Square South (305 W. 39th St). The first one runs about $260/night and the second one about $210/night......not including tax. More to follow!

    May 14, 2012

  • Vareck

Can you send those details to the rest of us as well?

    May 14, 2012

  • Tamara

Shoot me an email reference where you and Tom are staying and the other details.

    May 14, 2012

  • Bill H.

Tamara.....I plan on taking the train up on Friday and returning on Sunday, spending two nights in the city.

    May 14, 2012

  • Tamara

Amtrak is only $98 from Union Station to Penn Station with 14-day advance purchase.

    May 14, 2012

  • Tamara

If you are serious about HDR in NYC June 2, time is running out this week to take advantage of the Amtark 14-day advance pricing. I want to buy this week. Does anyone want to take the ride with me from Union Station WDC to Penn Station NYC? We would arrive at 6:40am. The last train departing Saturday night is 11:05pm. I'm not opposed to staying overnight Fri/Sat, Fri/Sat/Sun, or Sat/Sun and sharing a room. Let's coordinate and make this an adventure to remember.

    May 14, 2012

  • Bill H.

Thanks for the suggestion Jose, we will have to check on it.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
