Approaching Responsive Web Design

Free Networking & Keynote Speech Event

Leading Responsive Web Design (RWD) professionals from across the industry get together and discuss the current best practices of RWD and present critical viewpoints and insights.

Schedule:

18:00 -  Networking & Reception

18:30 – Our guest speakers take to the floor and share their Responsive Web Design (RWD) insights.

20:00 - Q+A and Networking

With the growing popularity of common CSS/JS responsive frameworks such as Bootstrap and Foundation, developers might think that this is a perfect solution for easily creating beautiful responsive websites.

This talk explains why you probably want to avoid them and why creating your own truly responsive solution can be a better choice.

We will talk about performance, flexibility, mainainability, standarisation and control over our code.
We will also explore the accessibility options and features of responsive websites.

Who should Attend?

This event is for anyone looking to get ahead in learning and understanding Responsive Web Design. We expect to see designers and developers from across the industry with a variety of backgrounds and skill sets, all of which who could add to a healthy conversation and debate.

Even if you are a beginner, or even if RWD isn't your forte, you should definitely come along!

Speakers:

Ramon Lapenta - Leading front-end developer for digital agency, Cyber-Duck, public speaker and RWD expert.

Paul Adam Davis - Opinionated web developer and budding entrepreneur, Paul is the 2011 .net magazine young developer of the year and founder of Kodery.

Rachel Andrew - Speaker, author, CO-Director of edgeofmyseat.com, a leading web development agency which produced the popular CMS, Perch.

    Misleading

Whoops, looks like some of my review went missing. I thought the title of the event "approaching responsive web design" was misleading, because as a designer I was expecting to hear more about how we as visual creatives can approach responsive design, but instead the talk wasn't at all about design, but about web development. So I think "approaching responsive web development" would have been a more suitable title.

I can see your point as it was more of a development orientated event. We did have a RWD event back last year that was more focussed on visual creatives which you may have found more useful. Saying that, as you are more than aware responsive design remains a hot topic so I can imagine that one of our future events will address the topic again but with more of a focus on design. Thanks for your feedback though, always appreciated. Are you attending the event coming up this Thursday, it'd be great to meet you!

Everything the speakers had to say was very interesting. However, I thought having the speakers hold their own microphone played down on their presentations, particularly Paul's.

I enjoyed the event and the venue was great. It was good to hear about other people's experiences with responsive web design and compare them to my own. The speakers had lots of good stuff to share, although at times some of the delivery wasn't great (who am I to judge though, I've never spoken in public before). Thanks to Digital Pond and to everyone who spoke/contributed, and I look forward to the next one!

Interesting. Handheld microphone / powerpoint control didn't seem to work too well.

Hey Emily, It's great that you were able to come and thank you to Moo for helping make the event happen. We did have a few technical issues during the event which we hope to iron out for next time. I'm hoping this didn't hamper your enjoyment of the event too much. I wanted to catch up with you afterwards but missed you. I'm sure they'll be opportunities in the future.
