Wild Life Hike (Zuid-Kennemerland National Park) - Episode 6

Details
Let’s meet the colorful Dutch spring with some healthy photographing this April! Camera in the hand, inspiration in the mind, and some energy in the legs are a perfect combination for (re-)discovering the surprising beauties of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. Let’s pay a visit to the wild animals and diverse vegetation, and capture them on CCD or film as we enjoy the sparkling light of early spring.
So pick up your camera, take comfy clothes, good shoes, and let’s explore this park together and see what we can find.
We will meet at 11:30 AM, at the Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland on Sunday April 6th. The meetup point will be at the café (duincafe de zandwaaier) of the visitor’s center that is located at the Park entrance called “De Zandwaaier.”. Very recently the visitor center has changed location and there can be some confusion concerning the address: The address of the Café is now Zeeweg 12 in Overveen but be aware that according to Google Maps this is incorrect. It brings you to the beach which is not at all where it is in reality! Be aware that your tomtom might also get confused.
Instead, check the maps below for guidance.
If you are coming by car set your GPS to Tetterodeweg 27 2051 Overveen,. And it should bring you in the vicinity of the entrance. Use the maps below to figure out the exact point.
After the walk, it has been a tradition to meet back at the coffee shop and enjoy together some of the local Food (The traditional pea soup sure warms you up!). Let’s keep this one up J.
I have been to this park a few times already, Each time, it was a very agreeable surprise with variable landscape in a short distance, and wild animals and birds (we met sheeps, shettland poneys and Bisons!). Amazing to know there is this little nature paradise so close to home (Check out the website: http://www.np-zuidkennemerland.nl/documents/home.xml?lang=nl ).
We will take a hiking route that starts from the pay parking. Starting similarly as last times, but then we will improvise some variation depending on what we encounter.
There are multiple options to go there. There is a bus stop next to the Bezorkercentrum (Bus 81), and a train station (Overveen) is at a walking distance (20-30 minutes). Additionally, there is a parking for car users: From the Bezoekerscentrum, it is the other side of the N200 road. It is a paying parking
There is a non-paying parking quite close, near a kind of sport center. From there, you can access the Café by foot (About 500m). From the free parking, walk back to the roundabout, turn left, and walk about 200m. On your right there is the entrance of the pay parking. Enter here. Walk beside the parking and you´ll see the building behind it. You will find the coffee shop there.
I will be travelling by car. I can pick up to three people from Leiden Station. Let me know if you need a ride.
And finally, if the evening before, the weather forecast predicts horrid skies, I will send a cancelling or postponing note to everybody.
A Bientôt!
Edouard
