Guided Tour of S.S. Explorer

Details

Full guided tour of the Steam ship S.S. Explorer.

IMPORTANT: You agree to waive any rights to claim damages from injury by agreeing to sign up to this meet.

I have arranged for 8 people and myself to get access to the whole ship guided round by 2 members of the committee (2 groups of 4). I may assist people who cannot do the whole tour.

I went down today and the whole thing is just amazing. Cabins for crew and officers, science rooms, the bridge etc. were all accessible as well the engine room and boilers. I have posted some images from my visit today on Facebook if you want to have a look. Not the best quality but a good record of what I saw.

We are still waiting for full permission from the Port Authorities but that should be no problem.

A certain amount of agility is required as it is all ladders and tight spaces and a working site.

If you wish to come and can't manage the ladders there is still the top of the ship and bridge etc. but you would miss a lot. Hard hats will be provided but please wear stout shoes (steel toes if possible but walking shoes would do) and wear clothes that you can do without (I was covered in grease and dirt). Life jackets are available if required.

It has been limited to 8 people and myself for safety reasons but another visit may be possible with another group on another day. We should be able to photograph the docks after the meet on the ship.

This will be over 3 hours so bring a flask and some sandwiches if you need them.

Please be at the gates early so we can sign in. I would suggest 15 minutes early if you can. If you are not there for 11am you will not get in to the port. Photographic ID is required (passport or drivers licence will be needed not a bus pass..).

So to sum up clothes that can get dirty, stout shoes, ID and be there early.
