For September we'll be reading the book that inspired the fantastic Tim Burton movie, Big Fish by Daniel Wallace:
In his prime, Edward Bloom was an extraordinary man. He could outrun anybody. He never missed a day of school. He saved lives and tamed giants. Animals loved him, people loved him, women loved him. He knew more jokes than any man alive. At least that’s what he told his son, William. But now Edward Bloom is dying, and William wants desperately to know the truth about his elusive father —this indefatigable teller of tall tales—before it’s too late. So, using the few facts he knows, William re-creates Edward’s life in a series of legends and myths—hilarious and wrenching, tender and outrageous—through which he begins to understand his father’s great feats, and his great failings.
This was such a great movie, we might organize a movie showing if anyone has not caught it (after we read the book of course). Also note that as the weather will likely be changing about now I've switched us back to Market of Choice as we may lose our fantastic summer patio weather. Although I'm not enamored with MoC, it is a good large free space that makes it easy to hear everyone. But if you have other suggestions I'm certainly open, the problem with places like New Day indoors is that a bit long table with the ambient noise of an indoor space makes it hard to hear those who aren't sitting directly by you...
